It was early winter 2004 in Yardley. Getting close to Christmas; decorations on display. Here are a few images.

Lakeside, along North Main Street and across from Lake Afton, is a large part of the historic fabric of Yardley Borough. Once an important stop on the underground railraw, a tunnel connected the basement to the canal. Even today, Lakeside stands as one of the signiture icons of Yardley.

General George Washington used Durham Boats, just like the ones pictured below, to take his army across the Delaware River for the battle of Trenton. The chill of the season is seen in the sun light reflecting in the ice crystaly on the boats.

These boats are heavy and very hard to navigate especially in strong river currents. Re-enactors use these boats every Christmas to honor General Washington and his troups. But many times, as was the Christmas of 2004, the river current was much to strong to safely cross.

A blue tint of the late afternoon suggest a slight rising of vapor from the mirror-like stillness of the Delaware River. Pictured is the tall concrete bridge that carries the old Reading Railroad tracks across the Delaware, which are used today by commuter trains running in and out of Philadelphia. The supports for the older and lower stone RR bridge can be discerned.

St. Andrew's Church on North Afton Avenue also represents a strong thread in the historical fabric of Yardley. Pictured here, the Church is being viewed across Lake Afton.

Many historic buildings still stand in Washington Crossing, PA and have been incorporated into the Washington Crossing Park. Here, the winter reflection of a bare tree limbs are silhouetted aginst the white plaster that covers this old stone house.

Chrisp cool mornings just as the sky is a strong blue, and when the Yardley Ducks of Lake Afton have yet to intrude, is a good time to stop, and reflect upon a day's beginning. The reflection in St. Andrew's Church adds to a morning's moment of Christmas solitude.

This image of the bridge in the Upper Park of Washington Crossing Park, PA was captured on December 10, 2006. To my eye, this bridge symbolizes leaving the shadows of the past, and crossing over to find a place of peace and joy in the New Year.
